DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AP : The main concept of this product line is "movement", for this reason this collection is called "Fluida". The idea is that these luminaires also provide, in addition to a functional value, a sculptural value in the environment where they will be used.
These products are inspired by the kinetic art of the early mid-20th century.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AP : The main focus was based on formal experimentation and materials to ensure that the collection has its own imprint and identity.
I wanted to make these objects functional and visually dynamic at the same time.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AP : I hope to continue advancing with the improvement of the prototypes, expose them and find the right people who want to manufacture them at an industrial level.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AP : I couldn't tell you an exact time but I think it has taken about a year to plan the complete collection.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AP : I have decided to design it on my own, without the request of any client, just to show the world my skills as a product designer.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AP : I am producing it on my own in small runs, as unique pieces, but I am interested in the idea of producing it at an industrial level and I am open to chatting with a company to make it happen.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
AP : What motivated me to design this collection was my desire to experiment in a world as interesting as lighting design.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AP : Lately I have been very influenced by the works of Italian designers like Gaetano Pesce and Aldo Rossi.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
AP : I think that the target customer for my design is anyone who is sensitive to art and open to modernity and minimalism in design.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AP : I think that what makes it new is its mobile structure and its sculptural and kinetic spirit.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AP : The name Fluida comes from the Spanish language, and means Fluidity.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AP : The first tool is a pencil and paper to make the sketches, then I pass those drawings to the computer to model it, and then I have used 3d printing to materialize the products.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AP : The proposal to use flexible materials.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AP : Colleagues industrial designers and companies dedicated to printing have collaborated with me.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AP : Technology fulfills a fundamental factor because it opens the spectrum of technical and formal possibilities.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AP : The investigation has been more than anything at a technical and material level.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AP : The main challenge is to ensure that the design, once materialized, is as faithful as possible to what was proposed in the project stage.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AP : I think this prestigious contest is a great showcase to show my designs to the world.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AP : I have learned many things mainly in the field of led lighting and new techniques and materials in 3d printing.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AP : Another important theme in this collection is environmental awareness, and we tried to reduce the environmental impact as much as possible, that's why we have implemented low energy consumption LED technology together with recycled materials.
