DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JSS : To me,”design” is a form to deliver information, whether it is through a simple or a continuous image. A good design is to create a charming narrative while meeting client’s needs at the same time. Most of my inspiration comes from animated films and video games. Those stories always attract me and become indispensable parts of my life. But I guess many things just go with the flow, even inspiration. Of course, my team plays an important role in it.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
JSS : First, attain the results of the clients. Then, make a total different work as before. Finally, we decided to go with surreal style, making the chick have a funny and magic adventure.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
JSS : Turning such recognitions into motivation to create better works again.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
JSS : We spent about one or one and a half month on the script and the concept afterwards.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
JSS : We started this concept by commission from the client. We tried to build unique work by brainstorming.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
JSS : Being trusted by the clients, brainstorming with team members and the support from them.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
JSS : If there needs to be an answer, I would say animated movie. Like Kon Satoshi or Miyazaki Hayao, I am deeply moved by how they tell a story. They have given me a lot of inspirations and thoughts, no matter it’s narrative of dreams, virtual or for my creativity.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
JSS : Students of generation Z and the new graduates who seek for part-time jobs.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
JSS : Being funny, and not predictable.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
JSS : It’s actually simple. It’s the title of the film “Chick and Coin”, which is about what happens to the main character and the vending machine.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
JSS : I use Keynote most of the time. A good work must be built on accurate, good planning and nice communication with customers or the team. I often summarize my idea through words. In this way, I’m able to change my imagination then visualize them into words and complete scripts with the team.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
JSS : Be funny, interesting and make people amazed.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
JSS : We worked with a team of ten members, who were all excellent experts.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
JSS : It would be hard to make such a good work without these great partners and their dedication. In order to enhance viewer’s immersive, we put a lot of efforts on style frames, concepts, motion design and BGM.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
JSS : We analyzed the habits of our target audience then made the file short, funny, and with a strong visual appearance to draw their attention.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
JSS : For we must built a whole new but funny, interesting worldview, we put a lot of efforts on designing story board, style frames, concepts, motion design and BGM.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
JSS : When I think it’s time to make a try.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
JSS : We used a total different way that we haven’t used before, including realistic illustrations and frame-by-frame animation. Then we “played” an interesting work. I also learned to better communicate with the team members.
