We had the distinct pleasure to interview award winning designer Jin Jeon about their original and creative 3D Animation design work. Jin Jeon is an award-winning communication designer, that makes our world a better place with their original 3d animation works.
Jin Jeon ("JJ") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work Alignment to Air 3D Animation. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
JJ : Many designers are recently working on 36 days, weeks, months of type projects to broaden their perspective and improve skills. Those creatives give Jin much inspiration all the time, and He has also been diving into this. While designers out there usually create this project with either static image or just quite short moving sequences, He likes to make one of a kind animations which could stand for more meaningful moments beyond just the beauty of design.
JJ : As for the personal experimental projects, when starting with the alphabet, A for the typography animation, Jin just came up with the conflicting words in some way such as Alignment to Air which is the title of this project. With that in mind, the animation presents more precise and elaborate moments for the first word. On the other hand, this ends up with a rather flexible and loose vibe to manifest the last letter.
JJ : He will promote his work with this honorable award via social network sites.
JJ : As coming up with the whole concept, it took around a couple of weeks.
JJ : Jin had a craving for visualizing his own creative worlds with generic alphabet words from this project. He also wanted to present that just ordinary static typography could be transformed into the most powerful movement and meaningful storyline along with motion graphics. With that being said, he intended to get and spread out an inspiration through the work.
JJ : The experimental project is to improve and his ability of conceptualizing and animating skills for the present.
JJ : Jin is always interested in animating stuff. Even though loving any static graphic designs so much, he has a instinct to make it move and convert a way of thinking with unexpected motion works.
JJ : "Behance", "Dribbble", and "Motionographer" give him a great inspiration all the time.
JJ : It is for People of all ages and both sexes who love typography 3D animations.
JJ : Whereas most of alphabet typography works in the field of designs tend to be like stationary creatives or short looping animation which focus more just visualization side, Jin's project rather comes with storytelling and its harmonizing graphics and movements together.
JJ : As this alphabet typography project is for "A", Jin was trying to also devise the title of the design in words starting with "A". Furthermore, he composed two conflicting words and presented those in sequence as "Alignment to Air". Through the plot in order, it depicted from structured patterns for "Alignment" to flexible ways of "Air".
JJ : He used the tools for this project like "Maxon Cinema 4D" for 3D Software, "Octane" for Render Plugin, "Adobe Creative Cloud" such as "After Effects", "Premier Pro", "Photoshop", "Illustrator", and "Audition" for Retouching and Compositing.
JJ : Like the title "Alignment to Air" implied, it is one of the most fun to catch up with its dynamic visual transformation between the scenes.
JJ : Jin is an all-round creator, so he did all the work by himself.
JJ : It functions as a bridge between Jin's ideas and the works realization by helping create a realistic 3D visualization and animation.
JJ : Before diving into gathering references for the animation, Jin was trying to set the project title first which is Alignment to Air. With the title, he was gathering a wide variety of related images and videos via Google, Pinterest, Behance, Dribble, and Vimeo. Depending on the words, the vibe of the graphics was totally different in that the Alignment comes with more organized and systematic visuals, while the Air literally presents relaxed and easy things. And then, as collecting mood boards to focus on the visual concepts side, he was researching well-known animators, "Vincent Schwenk" and "Vitaly Grossmann" who are great at playing a wide variety of moving shapes which helped him get problem solutions.
JJ : When it comes to the project's modeling and texturing, it required a great effort to create and map in that this project comes with sophisticated abstract shapes with many layers of them. On top of that, animating was a hard task as well to match up with the complicated geometric forms.
JJ : Jin wanted to challenge the world's most influential design award among many talented creators and broaden his perspective by introducing his philosophy and work all over the world.
JJ : It was a great lesson that the creator always has to diligently conceptualize the work first and research as much as possible.
