DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MB : My main idea was not to plan but play. I had a method. Random splash of ink on paper. Observation, inspiration and reaction to what appeared to me from that stain of colour. I continued added details with crayon, pencil, linear drawing.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MB : I was wondering where this method can lead me. It was a challenge out of curiosity.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MB : I would like to continue and do more illustrations, experiment more with materials and technique.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MB : During october 2019 I was drawing one illustration per a day. I don't remember hours exactly.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MB : It is a personal project. At the beginning, there was a push from my dear friend, who suggested me, that I do a challenge, one illustration per a day, as an evolution of my previous work.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MB : For this project I don't have further busines plans.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
MB : I wanted to challenge my creativity and see how my skills can evolve drawing daily.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MB : Sure, I was experimenting before with watercolour and linear drawing.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MB : Title links to the method. Splash of ink was the starting point for each illustration.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MB : I used ink — liquid watercolour, marker, pencil and white crayon on paper.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MB : Individual style that comes from traditional not digital tools. Unique irregularity of splash with combination with linear drawing that depends on it, will be not repeated.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MB : I wanted to make minimum input to the watercolour base and at the same time, to make the most of it.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MB : I was contacted by people working for the competition. They have noticed my work on Behance, and encouraged to apply.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MB : I have learned that my subconsciousness can pop up when I don't plan.
