DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: Creating a catalyst for future development which fed by Nile to upgrade the surrounding urban context. Also creating a rapid transporting events with a long-term positive impact. The hub location represent the historical transportation connections, water and rail, refocus bus transit both local and regional, and integrate with walking activities so that people have a multi-layered choice on how they travel to carry out their day-to-day activities.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: represent the historical transportation connections, water and rail, refocus bus transit both local and regional, and integrate with walking activities so that people have a multi-layered choice on how they travel to carry out their day-to-day activities.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Our Plan is trying to convert the project into reality by finding someone who could fund us & Adopt the Project to Come it Out Into the Light .
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took about six months of intensive work
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: Well We have a major transportation and traffic problems in our country & most of us suffer every day for his ordinary travels from home to work and vise verse , from this point we found our selves need to develop a new way and prototype of transportation hubs in our country .
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: as we told before Our Plan is trying to convert the project into reality by finding someone who could fund us & Adopt the Project to Come it Out Into the Light .
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: helping in upgrading the infrastructure of our country that leads to a respectful lifestyle for people
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: in cairo , Egypt
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: This project will mainly be used by ordinary people
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: that our design is aiming to achieve an environment that is not just a focal point for transportation, it is a new experience for the users, it is providing a place for people to access local amenities and work opportunities that helps to improve the community to achieve a better future.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The name inspired from the main concept of our project : Creating a catalyst for future development
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: We mainly used BIM ( Building information modeling ) to insure the accuracy and the integrity of all layers of circulation in the project , 3D circulation & suitable structure for each part in the project.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The project is a Transportation HUB that links the surrounding urban settlements to the heart of the dynamic life in easy and efficient way generated by merging different transportation systems like railway station, metro station, nile deck and bus station in addition to other services to convert the place to be the catalyst for the future development
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: yes we collaborated with civil engineers to help us while designing and upgrading the streets, bridges and moneeb square.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: The BIM technology helped us to integrate all these layers easily with minimum percentage of error
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: in the first we made a : ( collective research ) about the transportation systems in egypt and the transportation networks . research objectives : to find the best and suitable place to make the project on it which has overlaps in more that one transportation system. we found that Monib district and Monib square is the best location in the capital to make the project on it because it has the most overlaps in all types of transportation networks . after that we made another research on the selected place . research objective : to collect data on the traffic ,transportation lines in-sight , the main problems in that zone to trying to solve them with the project . the research analysed: - the existing case circulation and flow analysis . -land use timeline growth in the place -statistical data : density , building conditions and construction type of building there . after all of that : we made our decisions on how we will face these problems and how to change these constraints to be a good development by using international standards in redesign the square and in design the stations and the connections between them .
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: the main challenge was how to convert the existing place that crowded with slums into a new catalyst that encourage the people to upgrade the place . and how can we deal with the road network to maintain it and convert the monib square from its initial form to an organized and standard form . Also we faced some challenges while trying to connect the different way of transportations with each other smoothly with minimum distances for the passengers to move from a transportation system to another without facing troubles .
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: by seeing the competition ad
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: We learned a lot about transportation systems and design standards , a lot about human reactions and way of movement in this place & a lot about infrastructure and road designs .
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
: thank you
