DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: In a certain ideology, God (the creator) places the world under the care of seven holy angels, whom he created in seven days.
On Monday He created Angel Darda'il
.
On Tuesday He created Angel Israfil
.
On Wednesday He created Angel Mika'il
.
On Thursday He created Angel Gibra'il
.
On Friday He created Angel Shimna'il
.
On Saturday He created Angel Nura'il
.
And God made Melek Taus (Peacock Angel) the greatest of them and the first to emerge from the Light of God in the form of a seven-rayed rainbow.
Melek Taus and the six Great Angels are collectively the seven colors of the rainbow and Melek Taus became associated with the color blue, because this is the color of the sky and the heavens which is the source of all colors.
When God instructed all archangels to bow to Adam, Melek Taus refused and was punished by being cast down from heaven. He repented of his sin of pride and wept for 7,000 years, his tears quenching the fires of Hell. Melek Taus was pardoned and reinstated as chief of the angels.
Melek Taus, Meaning the Peacock Angel is an emanation of God who created the cosmos from the Cosmic Egg.
Melek Taus is the first out of a series of seven collections inspired by the seven archangels.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: Over a year from concept to production.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I was not commissioned. "Melek Taus" really inspired me.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I have full copy right of these designs and wish not to sell or lease the production rights.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: I am a jewellery designer but I think like a fine artist. I create what inspires me and I don't really pay attention to what the market expects. The first reason to create, for me is to satisfy the artist inside me but of course it makes me extremely happy to get positive feed back from people, costumers and the market.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Any one who likes the design can be a potential costumer.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: I have not seen similar or resembling concepts. Both the concept and design are unique and nobel.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: I came up with the name before the design. The design was based on "Melek Taus".
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The "Cosmic egg" is removable and the earring can be worn with or without it.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: I worked with a designer/engineer on the technical side of the pieces e.g. how it attaches to the body and stays in place.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: The great thing about winning these international competitions is that I don't need to worry about marketing anymore. It is taken care of.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I have learnt that my first design is not my first produced piece. from the time I design something until the time when I have the piece in my hand, The design keeps evolving. I can say it has changed a lot and this is how design works but as a designer, I always envision a piece from the beginning and I can say I will stick to my vision as much as I can. I am very loyal to those first rays of inspiration.
